The Springs Rivervale – gaining momentum

By Andrew Huggins

The Springs re-development in Rivervale is beginning to take shape. Talk to anyone who grew up in the area and they will tell you this is where they went swimming in the river at summertime. It is now about to become a modern hub of apartments, other residential buildings and commercial offices. It is being reborn.

Much of the site works have been completed as one can see when looking east as you come down the Graham Farmer Fwy off ramp to Great Eastern Hwy.

This development has been much anticipated particularly by owners in Rivervale and The City of Belmont. With the first buildings planned to be ready for occupation in 2014, the project is starting to gain momentum. The project will, at completion, have approximately 1000 dwellings and 40000sqm of office space. In some ways, it will likely look like a “mini East Perth”.

Within 4km to the CBD and walking distance to Burswood train station, this riverside project, many believe, will put Rivervale on the map. The Springs renewal will create pedestrian friendly areas, public open spaces including a ‘green link’ through the development to Cracknell Park and the Swan River foreshore.

The project can only be good for the area and is one of the reasons to believe that this area will outperform the rest of Perth in terms of growth.
